One of the risks we all face, regardless of age, is the potential for sudden illness, injury and, subsequently, the need for long-term care. All of these have far-reaching effects not just on your health, but on your way of life, your ability to earn income and on your overall finances.

These policies have exclusions and/or limitations. The cost and availability of Long Term Care insurance depend on factors such as age, health, and the type and amount of insurance purchased. As with most financial decisions, there are expenses associated with the purchase of Long Term Care insurance. Guarantees are based on the claims paying ability of the insurance company.

Retirement Planning

Planning for the future you always wanted - starting today

Life’s a journey; one with many twists and turns along the way. One day you’re graduating college, the next you’re leaving work behind for a new adventure. The question is: How ready are you to navigate your journey to retirement? Do you know what it takes to manage your money and help it last as long as you need it to? We do. And, we know it’s never too early to start planning for the future you imagine.

No matter what stage of life you’re in, we can help you pursue independence, freedom and the things that matter most to you. Your journey begins now. Let us help you get on your way.

College Funding

A higher purpose, a brighter future

You believe in the value of quality education. So do we. And we understand that the costs can be intimidating, maybe even seem out of reach, for many families. The good news is that there are a variety of investment vehicles to help bring higher education within reach – for a child, grandchild or even yourself. And although it is best to start the college investment process when your child is young, it is never too late to begin.

No matter your child’s age, what’s important is that you plan now. That’s where we can help.

Estate Planning

Creating your legacy and leaving your mark.

One of the greatest rewards of wealth is being able to share it with others. You’ve taken care of your own needs and wants, but it takes prudence and planning to make sure your loved ones and favorite charities last for generations. Having an estate plan to control the distribution of your assets benefits you, your family and the causes you care about and can help you mitigate potential pitfalls in the future.

We have the resources to customize a plan that not only protects your assets but also helps you share your wealth with the people and charities you care about most.

Goal Directed Planning

Any major life change – even a positive one – comes with its share of stress.

Regardless of the reasons, think about what direction you want (or need) to go in before you make a major decision that will affect you, your family and your financial future.

We can serve as a sounding board when considering your options and offer financial advice throughout the transition.

Investment Products

Every investment involves some risk, but the key is whether you’re willing to take on the risk for the potential reward. That’s where proper asset allocation, finding the right balance of investment strategies, comes in. Your particular mix should balance risk with reward in an effort to help you reach your goals.

By reviewing your portfolio, we can ensure you have the right balance of investments with the potential to help generate the returns you want and provide the protection you need for where you are in life.

We offer a wide range of products:

  • Mutual Funds
  • Stocks
  • Bonds - Treasury, Agency, Corporate, and Municipal Bonds
  • Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
  • Options
  • Unit Investment Trusts (UITs)
  • Diversification and asset allocation do not ensure a profit or protect against a loss

About Robert R "Bob" Jones

Robert R “Bob” Jones, has been serving the investment and financial communities since 1983 when he joined the brokerage firm of Smith Barney as a licensed Financial Advisor. After graduating from college in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting from West Virginia University, he went to work as a Cost Accountant for a large coal company that eventually sold its coal contract and closed the office in 1983.

After working for Smith Barney for two years he left to become the Investment Manager of Commerce Bank, a multi-bank holding company, with primary responsibility for all fixed income investments and bond duration for a half billion dollar fixed income portfolio. During this period, he went to night school and earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Charleston, graduating in 1988. After earning his MBA, the University of Charleston hired Bob to teach Finance 101 and Finance 102 during evening classes.

Bob left Commerce Bank in 1989 to become the Chief Investment Officer for the West Virginia State Treasurer’s office, where he had oversight for billions of retirement assets for State of West Virginia employees, as well as hundreds of millions in assets for local government agencies and municipalities that invested their excess cash with the Treasurer’s office. Bob was part of a team that was installed by the State legislator after the State Treasurer was impeached for losing $321,000,000.00 in State funds by investing in unapproved and inappropriate investments.

In 1993, Bob joined Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor where he worked until 2002 when he left to open an office for Raymond James as the Branch Manager. Bob currently has primary offices in Middlesboro, Kentucky, and Charleston, West Virginia, as well as satellite offices in Harlan, Kentucky, Harrogate, Jacksboro, Knoxville, and New Tazewell, Tennessee. Bob’s daughter, Colby Jones Eckert, joined his practice in 2018. She has her Series 7, Series 63, and Series 66 licenses. In late 2019, Bob’s son, Matthew, joined the practice and he is Series 7 and Series 63 licensed. The youngest son, William, joined the family practice in 2020.

Bob likes to give back to the communities that he serves and has been involved with many organizations, including, United Way, Junior Achievement, Ducks Unlimited, Charleston Men’s Shelter, Ray of Hope Women’s Shelter, and the ROHO Organization, among others, and has been very involved in the Charleston Baptist Temple where he has served in most leadership positions since 1982. Bob married his wife Jane Colby Jones in 1983. Besides raising four children, they have worked for many years with the Veterans Administration to provide shelter for homeless veterans. They are proud that their children are learning to give back to make this world a better place and for learning to serve others, particularly those battling drug addiction.

Bob, enjoys most sports, reading, walking, spending time with family and friends, giving back to others, and having faith in our neighbors. He and his children try to make a difference in the people they meet, the communities they serve, and the clients they work with. Investing and living are all about trusting ourselves and trusting others and we take this seriously.

About Colby Jones Eckert

Colby Jones Eckert, has been involved in business finance and personal investing since she graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2006. She has a Bachelor of Science degree with dual majors in Accounting and Information Systems. She holds the Series 7, Series 63, and Series 66 licenses administered through FINRA.

Before joining her father’s practice in 2018, she worked as a Lead Auditor for a Fortune 500 company focused on corporate real estate. In addition, she has worked as an Auditor for one of the largest privately owned companies in the United States, focusing on the performance and profitability for dozens of corporate branches. She started her career as an Accountant for a private oil and gas company before the company was sold to a venture capital company.
Her work and personal experiences in accounting and finance has made her more compassionate for her fellow investors as she strives to understand each investor’s goals, objectives, risk tolerances, and their investment knowledge. As far as numbers go, our clients are overwhelmingly women and Colby brings a perspective that her father appreciates and realizes how her many of our clients also appreciate another females input and intuition.

Most Financial Advisors do not have the undergraduate degree, work experience, or mentoring that clients deserve and should expect to make their Financial Advisors more valuable and relevant for their clients. Education and learning are corner stones of our investment guidance. Having a father with 41 years of work experience in investing is invaluable to her and their clients.

Colby and her husband, DJ, enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, making new friends, raising their English bulldog, and snow skiing. Colby is an avid walker and is known for getting in 10,000 steps per day weather permitting. Colby and her husband have a passion for wine country and the Green Bay Packers.

Like others in her family, she realizes the serious problem with drug addiction in America and how this epidemic is hurting families mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and endless other painful heartaches and she tries to make a difference for those experiencing this first hand within their family, as she has. Besides volunteering out in the community, she brings this issue into the workplace, where we try to assist families to make sure that loved ones dealing with addiction are considered in their financial and estate planning.
